Drive it Day - Sunday 25th April (to be confirmed)
Farm Walks - early/mid May (more details to follow)
Camping with Pigs : 12-15 August 2010
Pigstock : 15 August
As recommended in The Sunday Times Best Weekends Away 2010
We anticipate considerable demand for these two events, one of which finishes the other! Last year we looked after about 120 people in total at the camping area in the pig field and everyone reported that the straw was very comfortable indeed. The pig houses (they are moveable arcs) slept from 2 to 20 people at a time, over three nights. The pigs were appalled at some of the human behaviour but they have recovered. We suggest you keep an eye on this website in the near future for details of how to apply for tickets, for the camping. Those who came last year will be favoured, of course; newbies might have to answer some easy questions about our pigs! We hope to look after about 200 - 250 people on the pig campsite this year, over three or four days. Expect yoga in the field; story telling; breakfast in bed if you want it; farm walks. And a huge amount of space. Bring your mountain bikes and your boots
Pigstock, on the Sunday night, the 15th, in the pub garden, has been, up to now, all about local 'talent', but we are open this year to others who might wish to play (for very little money!). Abdoujaparov (spelling?!) come to us this year since they are well connected to our medical herbalist Crissie Cromer, who gives farm walks here during the year. They have a style that is very popular in German beer halls apparently. Our local sensations The Boy Done Good, The Cheese House Band and ageing rockers and sheep fanciers Breeze will be invited back. Their diaries are not clear yet! Just one thing: we cannot control the weather sadly, even in the middle of August.
Some of our current highlights
Michelin rated food every day—from aged beef to young veal and fresh mussels, amazing eggs and home cured bacon.
Landrover collect and take you home service if you ask us.
Rooms can be as cheap here as £20 per head per night if you have supper with us. This rate does not include breakfast. Please see our accommodation page for more details.
Books to borrow, great food to eat, interesting organic wines, a sofa to sit on, a roaring fire when suitable, staff who can chat and smile at the same time.
We also are looking for people to grow old fashioned fruit and veg for us, for the pub kitchen. We supply the seeds, and obviously the market. You do the growing and earn credits for food and drink. We have had about 8 gardeners working with us so far and there have been no contractual disputes! Liz Franklin is thrilled with the quality from people's gardens. Call in and talk to us, or call the pub and leave a message.
